Recession, War, and wait for it…Earthquakes!

Finally something I don’t have to blame on republicans! I mean, that might change ( Katrina) but for now we can all agree that this is something real that will not go away, as much we love to pretend that it will. So, this isn’t new news, but it’s finally getting some attention. California, one of the most “seismically active regions” in the world is now basically 99.7 percent certain to have a 6.7 earthquake (or above) within the next 30 years. Side note-it was claimed to be happening within 20 years when I was in high school, so I give us about seven luck filled years. The most frequent and active fault line, the San Andres, goes literally through my parents neighborhood. The epicenter of the fault lies in Parkfield California, 15 minutes from my parents and the only home I’ve ever known. Fuck.

This is a picture of a building that collapsed in my home town after our last quake. It fell on two ladies, one of which I went to high school with, killing them both instantly.

We have known this was a possibility for tens of years. Although politicians were given all this information and amazing alternatives for rebuilding, they have been way to chummy with contracting companies to up the safety requirements on buildings made after the San Francisco Quake. Pete Wilson, I’m talkin to you buddy!
