Buddyhead is a great source for the leakage of new songs from our forefathers’ homeland (England). I agree with Travis and trust him almost all of the time, I can attest to his major-rager status but I just can’t keep up with his undying loyalty to Oasis. I wish I could…. I really do but for 2.5 records, they’ve been breaking my heart. As I’ve said before, the magic is gone.
So anyway, both Oasis and The Verve are coming out with new albums soon and while I’m not even moderately interested in the new Oasis record, Travis has better things to say:
…on October 7th, I will be running to the record store (if there are any by then) to pick up my copy of the seventh studio album by the greatest current rock band in the world…. OASIS! They’re sticking with the four word title just like the last record and calling this one “Dig Out Your Soul”. The first single, “The Shock of the Lightning,” will be released one week earlier on September 29, 2008.
If you agree, visit his May 6th post where he leaks 3 new Oasis songs.
The Verve still has a second chance to win me over forever like Oasis has won over Travis, obviously the recent live shows has got me hyped (read our posts here: 1, 2, 3). The new record comes out August 19th in the US and here’s the new song, stolen from Buddyhead:
To me, it seems a bit over produced (its happened in the past and I haven’t bitched about it). The drums/ guitar are a bit Coldplayish and the “woot woot woot woot woo” in the background during verses is a bit distracting - I just want to hear that slick Ricky A voice on it’s own. BUT it’s been on loop for 45 minutes now and I’m feeling it. A good video could actually make this song a hit… in England.

New Verve song is a banger for sure John. They closed with this shit in NYC and we all grooved on it—except those in our 50-man party who were wired not stoned and couldn’t settle down…I’m gonna go ahead and say this is the best Verve-related product since “Song fo Lovers.” The falsetto gorrillas and techno breakdown are sick, U2-ish not Coldplay…The end bridge is sweet. Yeah Chard!!! Fuck Oasis…they’ve sucked since 97.

I don’t trust the opinion of anyone that likes TOOL. Unacceptable. I like the new Verve song, much like Bittersweet Symphony being a radical departure on Urbanian Hymatronz, Love is Noise will be a nice departure too, like Ray said, a club banger. The Verve needs to be overproduced no beef.
Oasis have some great songs but they have gotten to a really miserable point there they are the Brit equivalent of Motley Crue at this point.

Lacroix (to my knowledge) isn’t a Tool or GnR fan, I meant Buddyhead.
Apologies for John’s taste.

For the record, I’m am violently opposed to Tool and GnR. Also, Stone Temple Pilots make me want to fucking die.

Oh shit, Oasis as the Crue. I can’t go that far. But I agree that anyone who is from LA AND lkes Tool is not to be trusted and most likely is a Tool. I can’t wait to get my club grind on to this Verve song. When were the Verve a garage band btw? Everything they’ve done was overproduced. Chris Potter uses like 1098 tracks.

The Crue are the “bad boys of American RnR” some dudes from the “LA Streetz” who made party rock n roll. Oasis are their bizarro counterparts in a cooler package for sure, with better one liners and shit but you can’t argue that Liam is any different than Tommy Lee,he just wears better clothes. Oasis gets Soccertrash and the Crue get Hockey trash..pretty much the same shit.
Again I know Lacroix is not a Tool, GnR or STP cat. needed to be restated

Dear Oasis…PLEASE STOP. Your first two and a half records were incredible, some of my favorite music ever. Everything else was embarrassing.

I agree Oasis needs to quit. The only good thing they’ve release in the past decade is a Noel quote saying he’s selling his Ibiza house because James Blunt lives there.
Love iz Noise rocks!

[...] Guardian ran a funny, great Verve review, actually addressing (Oasis vs Verve) issues John raised last week: Where and when: Pyramid stage, Sunday, [...]

Do you Oasis haters think they care what you say when everyone knows they are still better than bands/groups currently in the charts. They are the ones laughing all the way to the bank not you lol.

John from Canada… I’ll take it one step further. I’ll bet Oasis doesn’t read this blog (though I wish they did… the band is not exactly our target audience). Most of the writers on this blog have been rabid Oasis heads since their inception. The band had 10 amazing years where we flew all over the world to see their shows and party in their honor, but since the early to mid 2000s, they started to suck and thus, their popularity has been in serious decline with all “fans” ever since. So I wouldn’t assume they’re sitting around counting money as often as they used to. (read the stats)
Of course, they are still better than 90% of the bands out there… duh. I wasn’t comparing them to popular music, I was comparing them to The Verve who, after a nasty breakup years ago and Richard Ashcroft’s crappy last album, are making a strong comeback with some good music.
